Species Information:
Biennial. Varieties cross by insect, recommended isolation – 2km.
Top setting or ‘walking’ onions produce bulblets at the top of the flower spike which, when planted, produce onions more quickly than from seed. They sometimes also produce fertile flowers which will cross with other onions. Welsh/bunching onions (Allium fistulosum) occasionally cross with onions up to 2km.
